The Challenge -- Day 77

Today's Scripture: Mark 15:1-20
[Read the Scripture in your Bible or online by clicking the above reference.]

And they clothed him in a purple cloak;
and after twisting some thorns into a crown, they put it on him.
Mark 15:17 NRSV

Pilot, the Roman governor who questioned Jesus, was amazed that Jesus refused to say a word. Pilot perceived Jesus as innocent and recognized the envy that turned the Jewish leaders against Him. But the leaders and crowd cried out, "Crucify Him!"

Pilot turned Jesus over for execution. The Roman soldiers in charge of the execution detail whipped Jesus as normal preparation for crucifixion. They were brutal and mocked Him before leading Him off to be crucified.

Who would you say was on trial, Pilot or Jesus?
Do we sometimes base our decisions on interests other than truth?

Lord Jesus, they clothed You in purple, but crowned You with thorns.
The world totally missed You. We treated You perversely.
Show me the places in my life where I mock You by perverting Your truth
and using Your name in illegitimate ways.
