In this passage, we see Jesus manifest His glory and His authority.
His greatness revealed at a wedding. Honoring His mother through obedience, even though it wasn't His time; turning water to wine, so the bridegroom would not be disgraced. His glory revealed through service, and the only ones who witnessed it were the servants and His disciples.
He revealed His authority in the temple. Righting a wrong, clearing out the blasphemous. Braiding a whip, beating the scandals. His authority revealed in public to the disgrace of those who were responsible for the sanctity of the temple.
What do we learn about God from these episodes?
His greatest glory is service and will be seen by those who serve Him.
"... the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Matthew 20:28 ESV
He wields His authority to right wrongs and humble those who despise Him and His Word.
I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse,
whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war.
Revelation 19:11 NIV84
Those who humble themselves before Him, accept His authority, will see His glory and experience His grace. But the proud, who disregard His Word and question His authority, will be humbled.
How do you see Him? Is He causing you trouble? Or blessing you with grace?
The Lord's curse is on the house of the wicked,
but he blesses the home of the righteous.
He mocks proud mockers but gives grace to the humble.
Proverbs 3:33-34 NIV84
