The Challenge -- Day 136

Today's Scripture: John 3:16-36
[If your Bible is out of reach, click the reference above to read online.]

Most of us are quite familiar with where we started today, John 3:16...

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son,
that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. ..."

But are you as familiar with what comes after?

"... For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Whoever believes in him is not condemned,
but whoever does not believe is condemned already,
because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. ..."
John 3:17-18 ESV

In a world that loves to portray God as a hard-hearted legalistic, discriminatory Judge, we find something completely different in His Word.

Here Jesus shows us a God who loves.
A God who does not come to condemn,
but humbles Himself in order to save the entire world.

God judges, but in Christ He does not condemn, we condemn ourselves through unbelief.

When people reject Him, His Word, His way, they condemn themselves to destruction, because they love darkness more than light.

Consider people you know who reject God because they don't believe a good God would allow rampant evil in the world.

How might you approach them in light of the truth seen today?

Take time to work out your understanding, ask God for revelation, in order to bring light into the lives of others.

Father God, You love us and long for us to love You.
You made the way for relationship through Jesus, righting our wrongs.
Bless me with the understanding and insight that I might correctly
share the truth of Your great love and goodness with others.
