Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made of pure nard,
and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair.
John 12:3
Because Jesus raised Mary's brother from the dead, she poured out extravagant worship on Him. She knew His resurrection power, she knew He deserved lavish worship. Worship without thought of what it cost.
Mary knew Jesus. But Judas, he only knew the power of a buck, he reprimanded her for pouring out such expensive means on Jesus. Means that could have been used to feed the "poor."
Jesus corrected the one who had it wrong. He defended Mary and told Judas to leave her alone.
Which one do you identify with more? Mary? or Judas?
Do you find yourself criticizing others' hearts of worship?
Or pouring out praise with no thought of what it costs you?
God deserves extravagant worship and will defend those who worship extravagantly.
Test your heart. Test your worship.
Those who worship Him don't care what it costs.
Those who worship the things of the world have a critical eye on those who worship Him.
Lord Jesus, fill my heart with extravagant worship.
Let me never forget, I was dead but now am alive
only because of You.
Praise the Lord!
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,
in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
Psalm 111:1 ESV
