Beyond the Gospels: Acts

Today's Scripture: Acts 19:1-20

But then resistance began to form as some of them began spreading evil rumors through the congregation about the Christian way of life.

This sentence sums it up even for the church today. The Christian church rarely disagrees about God as Creator and Jesus as His Son. Most of our resistance is more about our "way of life." What rules and regulations we must obey to be considered a follower of Jesus. Whose doing it right... or wrong. It is the same game the Pharisees and Saduccees played. And the outcome is always the same... resistance. It is just our nature to resist others telling us what to do. We find no value in being judged, but being the judge is a totally different thing.

Learning to follow Jesus is not about rules or regulations, not about tradition or policy. Following Jesus is about loving God and loving others. Who could resist that?

Lord, keep me focused on my relationship with You.
Convict me when I resist others because their way of walking
with You is different than mine. Teach me to love You where I am,
and to love others where they are.
