“…without ceasing I remember you always in my prayers…”
At the beginning of his letter to the Romans, the apostle
Paul tells the Christ-followers in Rome that he includes them in his prayers.
As Christians we are called to pray for others because we know that “The prayer
of the righteous is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16b)
In today’s world it’s easy to get caught up in focusing only
on ourselves. Our schedules are packed, finances are tight, and relationships
are strained. Our eyes are focused inward on ourselves. Praying ends up taking a
back seat to other things, and praying for others is done even less.
It is difficult, but we should be like Paul and focus our
eyes beyond our own situations and outward toward others. Paul was writing to
the newly-formed Christian church in Rome to let them know that they were not
alone. He was praying for them, and God was with them.
May we be like Paul and always lift up others in prayers. May
we clean away the clutter to create sacred times and spaces for prayer and to
do so everyday.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help us to pray for others
“without ceasing.” Let us focus on the needs of others, lifting them up in
prayer and knowing that our prayers are heard and answered. Amen.
