The pressures on Jesus included open opposition. The Pharisees wanted to trap Him and asked Jesus to perform a miracle to show God approved of Him. Jesus did not want the people to depend on signs and wonders.
He used the discussion about bread to warn His disciples to avoid false teachings. The symbolism of leaven at Passover should have readily come to mind, as well as Jesus's earlier miraculous feeding of the 5000.
Are we like the disciples, prone to forget all His benefits?
Lord, bless me with discernment and faith to recognize and retain Your truth.
False teachings leave me empty, only Your truth fills to overflowing.
