Beyond the Gospels: Galatians

Today's Scripture: Galatians 3:22 - 4:7

But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin,
so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ,
might be given to those who believe.
Galatians 3:22 NIV

Scripture... the Law... has locked up everything under the control of sin.

His Word reveals people as rebellious sinners. From the very first couple set in an idyllic garden, we chose the liar over God. Since that moment, sin has controlled the lives of people. Kept us from the promises of God.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 3:23 HCSB

There is only one way to receive the promises. Faith in the Promised One.

Jesus came to fulfill the Law. Not destroy it. Not change it. But live it out perfectly.

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets;
I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. ..." ---Jesus
Matthew 5:17 ESV

He came so we might receive the promises of God by faith in Him.
He came to set us free from the slavery of sin and death that we might live by the Spirit of life.

For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus
from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law,
weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son
in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,
in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled
in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
Romans 8:2-4 ESV

Trusting faith in Jesus's life, death, and resurrection sets us free to live by the Spirit of life. Follow His Way. Live out our lives in loving obedience to Him. And be included in His family of faith. All the promises become a Yes in Jesus. We are set free from the law to live by the Spirit.

Are you still trying to live by the letter of the law? Let go. Trust His work. Strive instead to hear and obey His Spirit.

Father God, thank You for sending Jesus that I might know the fulfillment
of Your promises in my life. Thank You for the faith You have blessed me with.
Open my heart to live by the Spirit and trust Jesus's fulfillment of the law.
