...doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly,
as if you were serving the Lord, not people...
Ephesians 6:6-7 NIV

From children and their parents to slaves and their masters, this passage is all about knowing our place when it comes to dealing with both sides of authority.

Whatever authority God places in our life: parents, principals, managers, bosses, husbands, coaches, leaders, etc. we are to receive their direction as if it is the will of God Himself.

There is no room for grumbling or complaining. There is no excuse for lip-service or false-flattery. Our obedience is to be sincere and respectful to all positions of authority as if serving the Lord.

There is also no place for anyone to abuse the authority which they have been given. Whether it's parents over their children, a husband over his wife, a boss over his employees. There should be no favoritism, no abusive language, no threats.

Those who are in positions of authority are accountable to God for how they use their authority.

God does not deal lightly with those who have authority issues. It's a big deal because it all comes down to our relationship with Him. If we cannot come under parents' authority as children or follow the rules set up in a classroom or work environment, the odds of coming under His authority are very slim.

Ultimately, we will all be held accountable to how we come under God's authority and obey Him. If a boss or manager, anyone with authority over you, directs you to act immorally or against God's way in any capacity, your first allegiance is to God. He will bless you for doing what you know is right, even if there are unpleasant consequences at first.

All Believers, no matter what role they have in the family, society, or church must respect authority and do the will of God from the heart, rendering service to God.

Where do you wrestle with authority in your life?
Maybe it's time to take it to Him. Let Him show you the root of your issue. Bring healing. That you may serve Him wholeheartedly.

Lord Jesus, reveal the places where I'm disrespectful of
or abusing authority in my life. I don't want anything
to hinder me from serving You with a whole heart.
