Beyond the Gospels: Revelation

Today's Scripture: Revelation 16:17-21

The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice
came out of the temple, from the throne, saying, "It is done!"
And there were flashes of lighting, rumblings, peals of thunder,
and a great earthquake such as there had never been since man was on earth,
so great was that earthquake.
Revelation 16:17-18

Great will be the fall of Babylon.

Babylon. The kingdom used by God to punish His people for their rebellion. The country to which they were exiled. Separated from their promised land. Separated from the presence of God.

Babylon. The picture of all things esteemed and pursued by man. Void of God.

"...For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God. ..."
Luke 16:15 ESV

Babylon. A place built solely on the ways of man.

A song came to mind as I read today's words...

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

                                       ---Edward Mote, 1797-1874

Building our lives on the things of this world will end in ruin.
The time is coming. Each day brings us closer to His return.
Where do you stand?

Lord Jesus, show me the places in my life where I am
building on the things of the world. I want to begin today
moving the sole foundation of my life to the only
Sure Foundation. You.

For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid,
which is Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:11 ESV
