Luke 22:49-53 NIV84
When Jesus's followers saw what was going to happen, they said, "Lord, should we strike with our swords?" And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
But Jesus answered, "No more of this!" And he touched the man's ear and healed him.
Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, "Am I leading a rebellion, that you have to come with swords and clubs? Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour --- when darkness reigns.
Jesus's followers saw a detachment of armed soldiers carrying lanterns and torches coming to arrest their Rabbi in the garden of Gethsemane. How did they respond? How did Jesus respond?
What light did Jesus shine on the religious leaders who came to arrest Him? Consider: Why did they wait to confront Him at this time and place? And what did Jesus imply when He said, "But this is your hour --- when darkness reigns"?
Those who live in the "dark" are highly offended when Jesus shines His light of truth into their lives. Have you seen people overreact when faced with a truth that comes close to their dark corners? Where and when do you find yourself becoming defensive regarding truth?
Lord Jesus, You are the Light and the Truth. Bless me with the faith and humility to stand in Your light and receive Your transforming truth.
Great peace have they which love thy law;
And nothing shall offend them.
Psalm 119:165 KJV
