John 13:31-38 NIV84
When [Judas Iscariot] was gone, Jesus said, "Now is the Son of Man glorified and God is glorified in him. If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once.
"My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
Simon Peter asked him, "Lord, where are you going?"
Jesus replied, "Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later."
Peter asked, "Lord, why can't I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you."
Then Jesus answered, "Will you really lay down your life for me? I tell you the truth, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times! ..."
How will Jesus be glorified?
Knowing that His time was short, what did He give His disciples? What is this "new command"?
Jesus knows our hearts better than we do. Even though Peter said he would follow Jesus to death, Jesus revealed a different reality. How does this make you feel about the convictions you verbalize when it comes to faith? Do you want to know what He sees in you?
Ask Him to examine your heart and reveal the truth to you...
Lord, You alone know my heart. Reveal the truth, I want to know where I stand when it comes to loving You and following Your command to love others. I want to show the world that I am Your disciple. Do not let me deceive myself.
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 139:23-24 NIV84
