Beyond the Gospels: Corinthians

Today's Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:35-49

When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed...
1 Corinthians 15:37

Paul, talking about the resurrection, compares our current bodies to seeds... just seeds...

That's quite a thought. We think we are so much now, and some of us spend a lot of time and energy trying to maintain these bodies in which we currently abide. When in reality it is a seed in Christ. A shadow of what is to come.

I think about seeds and what they grow. The seed is always so much less than what comes from planting it.

Mustard Seed Plant

Jesus said it Himself...
"With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth, yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade." ---Mark 4:30-32 ESV
In Christ, we are seeds. What we will grow after we are "sown" into the earth is yet to be seen. What comes forth at the time of resurrection determined by God. But what we do know... it will be so much greater than what we are now.

The body that is sown is perishable,
it is raised imperishable...
1 Corinthians 15:42

Father God, teach me to live life as a seed.
Looking forward without fear to being sown in the ground,
knowing in Christ Jesus it is much more than I can imagine now.
